Beaten Old Sketchbook

everything's cool everything's fine
Well I mean yeah I guess it would be. Wouldn’t it.

(The church by my house put this sign up, and it’s been puzzling me. So I took a picture of it and drew a response.)

The work-in-progress. Better picture of the final piece and detail pics later!

Mural: Beginnings. Or, “Oh crap, I have to design around all THAT?”
Going to be uploading all the mural progress pics from the A Year At Columbia project. That’s right, you’ve heard nothing from me for weeks but now your feed’s about to get flooded. Grab some sandbags, I guess. Maybe. There’ll be stuff.

I saw this right outside the window at the health center while I was on the elliptical. Not too bad for a crappy cell picture taken through a window while leaning as far as I could over the machine. She was staring at me while I was doing it. “Did you see that?” she’d tell the squirrel that followed shortly afterwards. “Humans are so ridic.”

This was my entry for the My Little Pony design-a-pony contest. Didn’t make finalist, oh well. :( But now that that’s all over with I can upload it here, because it’s awesome. And it’s a level of cuteness that I don’t usually do. Versatility— I has it.Here’s the description that went with it:We may wish for unicorns, but what do unicorns wish for? This pony knows that a wish can become reality with enough determination. So today, she begins the first chapter of her own legend.Today she has a colander for a helmet, a saucepan lid as a chest plate, strapped on with old belts. She has a wooden sword and shield, painted with the castle from a favorite childhood tale. Some day she’ll have her full suit of armor, and some day she’ll be a hero— the mighty protector of Equestria!

This would be why the previous David sketch was relevant.
I had this urgent need to draw a cover for an Animorphs book, but I wanted to draw it in a way that would properly represent the fact that these books are absolute nightmare fuel for kids (Wonderful, amazing nightmare fuel that’s infected my brain for the rest of my life). “The Return” is definitely one of the more horrifying books at least for the ending, and I’ve been on a David kick anyway since I reread the series. That’d be why it’s David on the cover instead of Rachel. Although it is the last book she narrates all the way. But hey, it’s also the last time we see David alive. So here we get him as an angry boy, and as a terrified rat. He’s just so wonderfully screwed in the head.Oh yeah, and that’s Crayak back there as a framing device/background. Look at all that mechanical detail. That took forever, and it’s kind of completely pointless, isn’t it? It hurt every single one of my fingers. But I love it. I’m in love with this piece.

Animorphs- David. Maybe you remember him; he was the one who went a bit nuts and tried to murder the other Animorphs. This is a sketch I did of him maybe a year ago. It’s about to be relevant, though (next post, probably), so I figured it could climb on in with the rest of the things.
I loved drawing that snarl.

NONSENSE IS THE BEST KIND OF SENSE This is a quick thing I drew for a cheer-up cardbomb going out to someone who needed it.
Okay obviously “cheerful” isn’t my strong point. “Weird” is, though, and that tends to go over well with people who enjoy the same brands of weird that I do.

FOLLOW ME FOLLOW ME AS I DERP THE DARKNESS. Here’s a silly fanart crossover between a ditzy pony and a goth-metal song.
I’ve shown this one off before on another site or three, but I figured it was about time to put it up here on the blog. It’s maybe two months old. I started off with inks on a watercolor block but forgot that one of the brands I was using wasn’t waterproof. So instead of frantically trying to correct a bleedy mess I just finished it in Photoshop.
Her googly Muppet eyes get me every time.

Pencils are done from that thing I’ve been doing! Next, inks. And later, I’ll reveal what the heck it is. To satisfy my unnecessary need for mysteriousness I’m showing you only the bottom half for now. This piece is turning out to be such a fantastic pain in the ass. I mean that in the most loving way.
And again, it’s 2am and I’m uploading things while exhausted. Tomorrow I’ve got a meeting with some people at my college; I’m doing a piece of a mural in one of the galleries and I’m bringing in sketches for my part. So, soon you’ll be getting to see bits of that weird scene. I have a couple ideas of what I want to do and they all have the potential to be insane amounts of fun. The walls are 12 freaking feet high. I’ve never gotten a chance to work that big before, so obviously I want to start right now.
